Excited for a Great World Cup in Florida Next April
Everybody has probably seen the news by now. World Cup VI will be held in Kissimmee, Florida on April 13-14. My reaction? Excitement. Pure excitement.
Sure, I may be from the West and having it in California would have been a lot more convenient for my team, but the Florida bid was the clearly better bid (I have no problem admitting that, cause it’s true). I’ve never been to Florida before (the furthest into the Southeast I have ever been is North Carolina), and so this will be an awesome opportunity to experience a new place while taking part in an awesome sporting event with lots of amazing people. It’s not a burden, it’s an incredible opportunity to experience something new and exciting.
The first thing I did when I saw the announcement was check BYU’s academic calendar. When I saw that we didn’t have finals until 4 days after World Cup, I was ecstatic. I want to be at this World Cup so bad. I have never been to a World Cup before. I didn’t even discover Quidditch until January of this year. So ever since then, I have been anxiously awaiting the next World Cup. This announcement makes those dreams seem all that much closer.
This announcement also gave me a ton of motivation. I know the date and place of the World Cup, and it looks like I should absolutely be able to go. Except we still have to qualify. So now I feel ultra-motivated to train and practice to make myself the very best Quidditch player I can, so that I can help my team (Utah Crimson Fliers) attempt to secure one of those World Cup spots. The opportunity is before me, now it’s up to me to do everything I can to seize it.
